Embark on an unforgettable trekking adventure in Mae Taeng district, located about 90 minutes north of Chiang Mai. This demanding route leads to Pyramid Peak, where sweeping 360° views await, including a stunning perspective of Doi Luang Chiang Dao – Thailand’s third-highest mountain.
Along the way, the trail winds through a Musur hill tribe village, tranquil pine forests, and a rugged mountain ridge before the final climb to the summit.
Journey to the Trailhead
From Chiang Mai, we’ll travel north by vehicle, with the last stretch along dirt tracks to reach the starting point.
The hike begins immediately with a steep ascent through the village and surrounding farmland before entering dense forest.
The Climb to Pyramid Peak
The trail quickly becomes more challenging, requiring some scrambling over large boulders as you gain elevation.
Eventually, the slope eases as you approach the base of Pyramid Peak. Here, the excitement builds for the final push – a short but exhilarating scramble to the top.
The reward is worth every step: far-reaching views across Mae Taeng’s valleys and ridges, with the jagged silhouette of Doi Luang Chiang Dao rising in the distance.
Summit Break & Return
At the peak, we’ll rest, enjoy snacks and refreshments, and soak in the scenery before starting our descent. The loop back to the village completes the trek, with options for a minimum distance of 10 km or a longer 23 km route for seasoned hikers seeking an extra challenge.
Water and light snacks are included, and you’re welcome to bring your own for the journey.
This is a technically challenging hike which requires a high level of fitness to complete the loop despite the short distance.
There is an option to drive part of the journey along a dual track if you’re not confident in completing the hike
There is also the option to extend the hike if you like a challenge
