Spend an unforgettable day exploring two of Northern Thailand’s most captivating destinations – the famous Doi Inthanon National Park, with its rich culture and breathtaking scenery, and the hidden gem of Pa Chor Canyon in Mae Wang National Park.
Morning: Waterfalls & Hill Tribe Village Life
Your journey begins with a convenient pick-up from your Chiang Mai hotel, followed by a comfortable 90-minute drive in an air-conditioned van or SUV. Our first destination is the magnificent Mae Ya Waterfall – an awe-inspiring cascade often missed by visitors. Just a short walk from the parking area brings you to its misty base, where you can take photos, relax, and soak in the natural beauty.
Next, we’ll make our way to Mae Klang Luang, a charming Karen hill tribe village surrounded by emerald rice terraces and mountain views. Here, you can wander along nature paths, observe daily village life, and visit a rustic coffee house where beans are roasted over an open flame. Try your hand at grinding the beans the traditional way before enjoying a freshly brewed cup while chatting with the locals.
Lunch: Scenic Northern Thai Flavors
We’ll stop at a local restaurant with panoramic views over the valley – the perfect setting to savor authentic Northern Thai cuisine and recharge before the afternoon’s adventures.
Afternoon: Wachirathan Falls & Pa Chor Canyon
After lunch, we’ll visit Wachirathan Waterfall, the park’s most powerful cascade. Its thundering waters and cool mist create a dramatic backdrop for photos and a refreshing pause before we head onward.
We’ll then leave Doi Inthanon behind and travel into Mae Wang National Park to discover Pa Chor Canyon – a striking natural wonder shaped over thousands of years. Once part of the Ping River’s ancient course, the area was gradually transformed by tectonic shifts, erosion, wind, and rain into towering cliffs and soil pillars, some reaching 30 meters high.
The 1-hour loop trail through the canyon offers close-up views of the layered earth walls, telling a geological story millions of years in the making. There are some steep steps and uneven ground, so a moderate fitness level is recommended. The rugged, golden formations contrast beautifully with the lush green scenery you saw earlier in the day.
Return to Chiang Mai
From Pa Chor, we’ll enjoy a comfortable one-hour drive back to Chiang Mai, where your day of nature, culture, and exploration comes to a close.
During the rainy season (April to October) a rain jacket or poncho is highly recommended
